It’s time for a quilt & read along, a true introvert’s ‘sewcial’ if there ever was one! Last year, as the world was shutting down, I picked up low volume fabrics I had collected over years and set into some methodical stitching. This vibrant green Irish Chain quilt seemed & it still makes me smile to look at it. I’ll be making two more of these so each of my little people has their own.
I couldn’t think of anything better than to host a quilt along as I create these two happy quilts. And how better to make a quilt along social than to add a read-a-long & discussion of one of my favorite books set in Ireland, What the Wind Knows. If we cannot travel abroad in person, we can absolutely travel via fiction. What the Wind Knows by Amy Harmon immerses you in the world of 1921 Ireland as the country holds its breath on the brink of war. You’ll wonder who to trust, fall in love, experience a time travel romance for the ages, and get a sensory experience through Amy’s storytelling. You can purchase the book from Amazon.
It is available as a hardcover, paperback, or kindle edition.
I’ve created a pattern for this quilt that you can preorder in my shop here. There will be a pattern as well, although I know that this design is very simple. The weekly instructions I post will include all details, but they will be deleted when the next step is posted. If you keep with the schedule, you should get all the instructions you need to create the quilt.
This quilt along will last for four weeks. I will put the first post live next Wednesday, but the following posts will all be live on Monday. My current schedule plan is:
February 17th – Irish Chain fabric cutting & tutorial and What The Wind Knows Chs 1-4
February 22nd – Assembling the rows & What the Wind Knows Ch 5-12
March 1st – Making the Blocks & What the Wind Knows Ch 13-17
March 8th – Putting the Quilt Top Together & What the Wind Knows Ch 14-26
March 15th – Quilt Your Quilt Top

yes, I want to join in on this one (I hope) My life is unpredictable these days and I am always dodging wrenches… haha
I will check the library to see if they have this book. I do like historical fiction.
I wish it was on tape. That would be so good…. for me.
I love this quilt.
I was inspired by your yellow bear paw quilt you made some time back and made one on my own.
It turned out sweet and I am so grateful for your originality, and creativity. I just need to get it quilted.
Happy Week-end Amanda. I will be gathering fabrics. Green looks good.

I’m in too! My book won’t be here for awhile as I ordered a used copy from ThriftBooks… so I’ll need to get caught up once it arrives. Looking forward to meeting some new quilty friends too!
Blessings!

Where can I find the Irish Chain quilt along videos with instructions? I attempted to purchase your kits but they went too fast…I’d like to try using some of my own stash. Can I participate?

I read about your moth situation on Instagram and tried to comment, but it failed. I had an infestation of moths years ago in my kitchen. We found traps to catch them. They use a pheromone to attract the moths. It’s a good idea to clean as you have done mainly to get rid of any worms. Then you just set the traps around the areas where you have seen the moths. Since my problem, all grain type products go immediately into the freezer for at least 24 hours.
