About a month ago I had a bit of a color craving, if you will. I wanted something cozy and sweet, but not in any of my traditional color schemes. Nothing would do but I worked with these spice shade hues. I chose to make over my Sonnet quilt pattern I had created in a 2 color scheme a few years ago, but make it super scrappy in low volume patchwork.
These pictures really don’t do this quilt justice. It’s sweet and spicy and absolutely exactly what I had been going for. It’s already quilted and claimed on my son’s bed. I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out. We created kits for this quilt that I am quite proud of and the majority of them sold very, very quickly. We have a few remaining kits we’ve held back in case any we shipped get lost in transit. Since priority mail generally takes 48-72 hours from when the post office receives it, we expect to know exactly how many kits we have left to sell by Thursday. If you are interested, the wait list for those kits is here.
All together, I used more than 50 different prints in my kits, mixing golds and browns, civil war prints and modern woodcut prints and just letting everything mix. We were able to get the owl woodcuts for our kit along with several other of the exact prints I used, and we included 50 different prints in our kits, 17 spice colors and 33 low volumes prints. I’m so thrilled with how it all came together!
These scrappy patchwork quilts make me very happy. So far this year I’ve made a green version of an Irish Chain, a yellow Bear Paw, a Blue Ohio Star, & this Cinnamon Sonnet. My next plan is an orchid colored log cabin quilt (which you can see a preview of on my IG) & hopefully a red quilt I’ve had in my head for Christmas. I’m not a very fast quilter, but lately my quilting & the resulting quilts have been such a comfort to me. I’m grateful to have something to keep my hands busy and my mind dreaming. For right now, I’m just going to keep dreaming up pretty new quilts!
You can find the pattern here with both the 2 color & patchwork directions.
