Waste Not

May 6, 2012

I have finally had a tiny bit of time to spend working on quilts. With my sweet husband out of town the last couple of weeks, it has been a bit of a juggling act. So, I pulled out a quilt I started last summer. With the re-release of Flea Market Fancy, I picked it back up and started stitching. Then, I started trimming. And the trimming started to bother me. The pretty pieces that I have been hoarding for years (blue tiles! blue seeds!) started to pile up in the ‘waste’ bin.
DSC_0398

I looked at the pieces and thought, ‘those must be good for something!’ I started to fiddle with the scraps.

DSC_0407

And I realized I could trim these little pieces into already assembled half square triangles. And from there, you are just a couple seams away from pinwheels. So, after a few minutes of trimming and a few minutes of sewing, I came up with this. And there are a lot more scraps to be trimmed!

DSC_0416

And just for fun, since I am pretty durn proud of my little salvage project, I would love to do a *little* impromptu giveaway. Guess how big my finished pinwheel block is and leave a little note in the comments. All the correct answers will find their way into a hat and one lucky person will win a Flea Market Fancy charm pack from our little shop.

I’ll close the comments before I head to bed on Wednesday.Happy Guessing!

  59. Em says

    May 7, 2012 at 3:52 pm

Wait! I forgot to account for all the seam allowances BETWEEN the pinwheels! It’s even smaller than 6×6. Now, you have me doing quilt math …

    May 7, 2012 at 4:14 pm
