Lock Down

February 18, 2013

While I am working on quilting a few quilts, I thought I would share a step of my process. I have used this technique to limit the amount of squaring up I have to do later.

By zig zag basting down the edges right after basting my quilt, I don’t have to deal too much with my quilts getting out of square in the quilting process. It also lets me get a bunch of pins out right away so I don’t have to dodge them later.

I love when a plan comes together 🙂

(If you are interested, here are the settings on my machine for the zig zag stitch. It’s just a bit longer than normal to save on thread.)

Great idea! I noticed that Sarah did something similar on your Swoon, so I believe you’re onto something. I’ll have to try it.

Thankyou for the tip. I haven’t tried this before but I have a stack of tops waiting to be quilted to try it on.

I zig zag my quilts too but after quilting! I will definitely give this a go on the next one. Thanks!
