Tips and Tricks Tuesday: Volume One

April 2, 2013

I’ve been having a bit of fun with my Fireworks quilt. I LOVE it to pieces and I am really glad I chain pieced this. I now have 14 blocks finished, but I am at the final assembly step for all of the blocks, so it won’t be too much longer. I am making 25 blocks for an 80″x80″ quilt. I am so excited to see it together!

Fireworks Progress

So, for my very first ‘Tip Tuesday’, I’ll share my method for ironing all those hundreds of seams in a jiffy without any burnt fingers.

Tip Tuesday

I highly recommend using glass head pins for this step. I *may* have melted a couple of the heads of my pretty plastic pins. I also just pin one side at an angle rather than going to the trouble of really ‘pinning it open’. This is more of a quick stab.

Now, Press.
Tip Tuesday at A Crafty Fox

It goes SO much faster! And your fingers will thank you 🙂

See you on Thursday with my tutorial for the Girl Friday Blog Hop!

This is SUCH a fanTABulous trick! I love to press my seams open, and this just makes it go lickety-split! So cool and helpful. I hope everyone falls in love with this trick. 🙂

Loving this quilt! So glad you’re sharing on IG. I had really wanted to buy this line when it came out, but funds were low, so I have to live vicariously through my friends!

I love the firework block. I just discovered your blog recently. Can you help me understand when you press a seam open and when you press to one side or the other. Is there a “rule” to that or Personal preference?

Wonderful start, I love how you have used the Les Amis fabric. Can’t wait until it is finished.

I love your Fireworks quilt! I’ve been thinking of doing it after I make my Swoon. I have always pressed my seams to one side, which is the way I was taught, but want to do the X Plus Along (late!) and will probably press my seams open. Thanks for the tip, it’s definitely going to be very useful!
