Remember when I talked about finishing things? That post held so much meaning for me. It’s important. I have been making a serious effort to tackle things in my pile. Because when it’s unfinished it takes up space in the back of my mind that I’d like to move on to other things.
Some stuff isn’t so fun, but this dress? It was fun. It has pockets (you know how I feel about that, right?) and the little cut outs on the sleeve are really sweet. I started this dress around the time my little boy was born, so about 4 years ago. Yikes!!! I finished the top & sleeves, cut out the skirt and then I let it sit. And sit.
Then my mom came up to visit this summer and we pulled it out. She showed me how to put in the button holes. Then I finished up the skirt. And then I hemmed it. So the entire project came down to sewing the waist to the bodice. That took a month. Crazy, right?!
Finally I added in the hem & called it a day. It’s already had a few outings, family movie night at my little girl’s school and church. It was an incredibly easy make, despite taking four years. The pattern is from Sew Serendipity, so you know that every detail is mentioned. Looking at it today, I honestly don’t think I would cut it out again, but the end result is pretty and will look cute with boots and a sweater this fall. For now, the weather is warm enough to wear it with these cute booties (that I love and are on sale!)
The day I wore my green dress, my little girl wore her new handmade dress from my mom. And then she asked me to take a picture with her fans. I would do anything to make her happy.
Thank you for stopping by and reading my blog! Leave me a note in the comments letting me know what you are working on finishing up!

Pretty dress! I love the fabric choice. The color is beautiful. It feels so good to finish those UFOs, huh? I just finished pin basting my quilt, and I am planning to set up the extra table behind my sewing machine this weekend so I can start quilting. I am really good at staring things and putting them to the side for awhile. I get overwhelmed or something. It bugs me though. I hate having something sitting there unfinished. When I push through and finish, it means a lot.

Always feels so good to finish something! Today I am going to granddaughter’s soccer game and then her Mom’s! Well my daughter is collegiate Women’s soccer coach and it’s her game day too! We will finish up with team family and friends picnic and then take Annika for an overnight with Nana and Poppy. One of the best days even with no sewing. Tomorrow I get binding on a long overdue Tee shirt quilt so by next Friday it’s in the mail and off my conscience! And I love this green.

Your dress is darling it looks fun and easy to wear. Even though the first one took awhile I say make more a red one a yellow one a blue one and a denim one. The first is the worst you are stepping into the unknown after that it’s easier in that way and harder because you know the journey and sometimes it is just work to get it to the next step. In fact if you get all the colors going at once you could challenge yourself to get each step for each dress done in 2 weeks or send all the dresses to your mom for the button holes (flat rate shipping cost is the same one dress or all) .
Can you tell I like the way you look in this dress? Perhaps no cut out in the sleeve for the yellow one or no sleeve in the blue or a ruffle sleeve for the red and cap style in denim.
Once the weather gets too chilly put this dress away until hmmm the first sunny day after the last frost or a date oh yes May 1 2017 May Day
Then if you make a yellow a red a blue and a denim you can wear a new dress on the first of each warm (or should be in my mind) month May, June ,July,August ,September and a few other wearing during the warmer months
That dress just looks so fun and easy to wear to lunch to vacuum to read to hold your children to walk to shop to sit on a chair to cook to library to go to the park to ride in the car.
The pockets are great as is the easy fit not too fitted but enough so it’s not a sack enough skirt to cover while sitting and to walk or move quickly if you need to save a child from a fall
And I can see a cross body bag/purse made with fabrics from all the dresses just so you can take more for a longer time away from home
And then just a tissue or a ladies hanky to have for your self or a young one in those pockets
Yes I do like this dress on you
I am old (and so happy to have made it to old and hope to continue to get older and older) and I’d love to have your figure to wear this dress right now I am more of a bulging box shape to your hour glass shape.
But I am working on me both my mental health and physical health 35 pounds and counting and therapy weekly and I am currently able to have moments of happiness which is so much fun oh I do cry and I do get sad just in a more reasonable way rather than crying day after day if I cry I get a tissue and just get over it …. it’s a learned skill one that I am happy to have through therapy but could not explain how to do it I just cry when it’s right “normal” to cry and stop like during a movie.
So I just might get a less boxy figure and be able to wear a fun dress similar to your green dress
Continue to enjoy your family and good health to you all

So happy to see you wearing that green dress – especially I had to literally hunt down the pieces one at a time (good thing I needed to use the serger while I was there) – and that it fits you so well. Those little bits of fitting made all the difference.
And I’m happy also that Abby likes HER dress too. I nearly panicked when I realized it was double gauze and not knit, like I thought. But it worked and looks great on her. And the fans make a super cute prop.
So, that’s about the best thing that’s happened to me in awhile.
And if you want a yellow dress and a red one and a blue one and a denim one… I’d say make them yourself but you’d know I didn’t mean it. 😉

Would you mind double checking whose pattern you used? I enquired at Serendipity and it’s not Kay’s pattern. Do you still have the pattern, to check it? Would love to know whose it is – I think it’s darling! Thanks!
