For the last few weeks, I’ve been in the mood to simplify and reduce almost everything around me. Things have started to feel heavy. My lists have begun to overwhelm as they lengthen and grow without an equal amount of items being checked off. It’s been two years of holding my breath and just trying to get to tomorrow. But I feel the tide inside me starting to turn. There is only just this one life for me and I’ve missed living it. So I’ve been going through and pruning back the things that don’t fit anymore. We’ve been decluttering, prioritizing and getting our lives back on track.
If you follow me on instagram, you may think I am constantly designing new things, but the truth is I haven’t designed and created anything new in almost a year. I’ve remade old things, I’ve finished a few things I had started in what feels like a before-time, but I’ve been in a rut. But I’ve recently been finishing old projects to free up mental space for new projects. This heart is a big step. I drew up the pattern the other night and I am getting it ready to present it here on Wednesday. It is exactly the right size to pop into the low volume block in my Limerick Quilt or into the star block in my Festive Quilt. While the sample is pretty scrappy, it looks fabulous with just one print for the pink & a patchwork background.
I have to admit, I’m probably more excited than this warrants. While I will be sharing this block as an accessory pattern on Wednesday (there will be a tutorial for those who feel up to making their own templates), today I want to celebrate this baby step with a giveaway. While I’m simplifying in a lot of areas, I am NOT simplifying my scissor collection. I ordered close to twenty pairs of scissors over the holidays including a dozen of these amazingly sharp embroidery scissors from Warm Heart Scissors. They are MY FAVORITES.
So today, i’m sharing a pair identical to these with you. And I’m hosting my giveaway here on my blog instead of on insta, so your odds with be pretty good. I haven’t done this in FOREVER, so tell me one thing you are hoping to achieve in 2022. I’ll pick a winner from the comments section on FRIDAY.

I want to make a quilt for every season this year

I’m hoping to finish my EPP hexies AND finally, gracefully transition into empty nesting. Working on finding direction in the midst of all this free time. Sounds weird but after 20 + years of life revolving around our three boys it is oddly immobilizing to wake without a calendar full of ballgames, practices, recitals and rowdy activity:). So 2022 is my “take back” year😊.

I would like to cherish time with my kids. My youngest graduates from high school and another is planning a move to Chicago. We live on a dairy farm and we work and play together. This makes it easy to take time together for granted. That seems to be coming to an end. Grateful for the time we’ve spent together.

One thing I hope to achieve…. Retire so I get more time with my grand babies, read, quilt, play, and travel more. The date has pushed out some because of technicalities, but here’s to long lazy days with fabric and a sharp pair of scissors in hand.

This year I plan on using up what I have…a no-buy year of sorts. I love all that I have but I am getting overwhelmed with it all. I also want to enjoy the process instead of hurrying to get on to the next project on my list. I think I will enjoy this year! Darling giveaway❤️
Missy Reynolds says
I, too, am overwhelmed with my UFO list and my sewing room in general. I set a goal to work on them, not buy new fabric or patterns, until I get them under control. I hope your burst of creative energy continues.
The one thing I want to do for myself in 2022 is complete the Nebula quilt by Jaybird quilts! It will be a doozy for me!
Hannah says
We are expecting our first baby in August so a lot of things I am hoping to accomplish are related to that! I was so busy in 2021 with customer quilts, I am hoping to be able to slow down and make plenty of baby quilts for us this year!
Cindy Smith says
I want to complete some UFO’s and finally make quilts from that fabric I’ve been saving.

I am hoping to work through all of my WIP. I’ve made a good start and I am pressing forward, forward, forward. I love these scissors and would love to win them.

My goal for the year is also to simplify and declutter. I moved to a much smaller home. I want to free myself from the weight of so much stuff.

I mainly want to finish a quilt I started in 2019. I have ambitious plans to add applique.
Betsy says
I am hoping in 2022 I can admire all the quilts and blocks I see on IG but be realistic as to which of those I really want to make. I get so excited about new projects and then get distracted when something else gets my attention. I think if I am more thoughtful about my projects, I would have more finishes and less regret over a stack of ufos.
Leslie K. says
I have so many WIPs that are patiently waiting for me. However, I MUST finish 2 baby quilts in the months of January and February before I can work on anything else. After these baby quilts, I would like to finish at least 2 WIPs this year. I have set the goal of finishing one by June and the other in the second half of the year. I also would like to start my XMAS sewing much earlier (July) so that I can actually finish it all by December. Too many goals! I do have all my goals written in my day planner, which does keep me on track! We will see!
Mrs. Goodneedle says
My goal is to respect my time and my energy level by keeping everything in perspective: enjoying what I have, finishing what I can and not overloading my days with projects and promises that are impossible to complete.
Marsha says
We have a grandson, and 2 great nieces who will be graduating next year. They will each get a graduation quilt. I am going to make one of their quilts this year, if not two to help ease the burden a bit. What a high school experience they have had to endure!
Joy Avery says
I’m going to finish my temperature quilt, hearts replace the circles on family birthdays. This will be a keeper for me.

I have three nephews that I’d like to make a quilt for this year. These sweet scissors would be a lovely addition to my sewing kit and they would help in getting these three gifts made, for three sweet boys. 💖

Karen Seitz says
Hi, Amanda. I’m hoping to get my sewjo back in 2022. I hardly did any sewing after May 2021 and can’t seen to get back to it. I AM doing a lot of hand embroidery projects, so that’s something.
Judy says
My goal is to get better at the actual quilting process and finish some ufo’s. A few years ago I donated a lap quilt each month to our local infusion lab. I’d like to do that again as well. Lap quilts are great for practicing quilting!
Michelle M. says
I’ve been so behind on projects these last few years! But this year, I’d like to expand our garden enough to be able to say we have enough “abundance” for canning. I’d also like to get back into sewing for myself. Maybe a few skirts! Those cute little scissors would making sewing extra fun. Thanks for the chance to win them!
Natalie Hardy says
I’ve followed you for a long time for inspiration from your creativity, and for a reminder that I can get back to something I love to do. I hope 2022 is my year to get back to quilting and creating! I recently became a young widow, as my husband passed away after a nine plus year long battle with cancer. This year I hope to find a piece of myself that I had to set aside so I could take care of my husband and our five busy kids. I’ve used a cheap pair of stork scissors for years because I love their dainty feel and design. I’d love a beautiful new pair as I settle into this new life and rediscover the parts of me that bring me joy. Thanks for the giveaway, but mostly for the inspiration!
Katie Kasel says
I love everything you do, it’s all very classic and elegant ! In 2022, as I age, I hope to heal my body and mind, by taking care of myself, eating better, lessening my exposure to negative people, detoxing my body, using healthier products and creating beautiful quilts💙💜💙
acraftyfox says
those are beautiful goals. I hope you achieve them!

Debra says
My intention for this year is to finish up four quilts to gift for Christmas!
Joanne H. says
My goal for 2022 is to get myself organized and put a major dent in my UFOs. I think I can do that much more easily when I take a breath and think before committing to any new projects. I have spent a number of years beginning projects “for me” only to have them stashed away when I am asked to make a sample for a shop or make a sample so I can teach a class. It’s will be challenging, but I feel that I am up to the task. 🙂
Patti McGarry says
I retired a few months ago and my goal for this year is to complete a quilt for all of my grandkids. Then I’ll start on my kids. Plus I’ll squeeze my husband in there in time for our anniversary!

I am hoping to finish a bunch of quilts this year. Last year I did a lot of sewing for others and didn’t get what I wanted to done. I am also hoping to get fabric piles organized so they are not all over the house.
Carole Williams says
I will turn 80 in June and I have two things I hope to accomplish this year. I want to take my youngest granddaughter to see the Ark and I want to visit all of my grandchildren in their own homes. That means seeing 5 adult grandchildren with their own families to include my 6 great grandchildren. I have made many many quilts for these children over the years, but nothing impressed me as much as my eldest great granddaughter at 5 years old giving me the quilt tour in her new home. It ended with Abby showing me her dad’s baby quilt being used on her bed. It was made over 30 years ago! I will be giving her a new quilt for her bed as soon as I get the quilting finished and bind it.
Mary Ann Scanlon says
I want to make a tee shirt quilt for my daughters birthday. I have had the box of her hs and college shirts stored for ever.

I am going to beat ovarian cancer this year. I haven’t felt much like quilting the past 6 months, so I’m getting on with it NOW! Concentrating on healthfulness and renewing this most peaceful hobby is my 2022 goal.
