Loop The Loop

August 29, 2012

I think one of the BEST quilting books released this summer was Angela Walter’s book on Free Motion Quilting.  It is simply amazing. If you haven’t had a chance to add it to your collection, I would highly recommend considering it. The book goes over what seems like an endless collection of free motion quilting ideas, with each idea having an ‘easy’ version to start and then gradually building to more complicated variations. It is such a great and handy resource. It looks like Amazon and B&N are back ordered, but I see that it is available here. I can promise that this book is worth EVERY penny!

Personally, when I start something, I like to start at the beginning. Angela’s book begins with basic loops that graduate into fancy pants swirls (can’t wait to try those!) I loved the idea of the double loops and triple loops! <3 so that is where I started my quilting experiments. I had this lovely quilt top, which I'll definitely show off in more detail later, but for now, here are my loops. DSC_0938

They are so pretty and I can’t stop tracing them with my fingers. I know they aren’t incredibly difficult, but I love the polished look they add to the quilt top.

I’m excited to try more fun new patterns! You can read more reviews and mentions on this awesome book and quilter here, hear from one of her devoted fans here, and see more of her gorgeous work here

I just bought this book last weekend, and am in love with it, I’ve filled up pages and pages of doodles in my notebook and have basted two quilts in preparation of learning more! I think everybody should own a copy who likes to free motion quilt. Your quilt looks great! Good job and I can’t wait to see your progression 🙂

I’ve been trying to resist buying that book, but after seeing your lovely quilt top and the gorgeous loops, I obviously need to add it to my collection. Your quilt (and its loops) are indeed lovely.

What a great review!! So many reviews are based on ‘I was sent a free copy of the book and the pictures look nice”. I love that you have put the projects into practise and let us know how it turned out. I am a little scared of anything other than stipples at the best of times. I will have to keep my eye out for this one in our local bookshops. Thank -you again for such a helpful review.
