On our trip to Florida, Weston & I used our skills of persuasion to talk my mom into watching our three little people so we could have a night away. I don’t know if you can relate, but at our house, pretty much every conversation is abruptly ended with ‘mom!’ Once we got my mom signed up to watch all three littles, we booked a room at the Grand Hotel in Fairhope, Alabama. It’s always fun to have an excuse to break out my Weekender bag, and since I had packed a few quilts for the trunk show, we grabbed one for ‘just in case’ – and I’m so glad we did!
We spent our day exploring the amazing grounds of the hotel. The entire place is just surreal. It is perfect old southern gardens located right on the gulf coast.
We broke out the quilt more than once since I hadn’t brought a jacket. The swimsuit I had brought never saw the light of day. But just the slower pace, the unplugged nature of the resort and getting to have an entire conversation without a little person having a meltdown (three is a hard age!) made this one of our favorite getaways ever!
This red Camellia tree seemed like something straight out of a fairy tale. The entire area was just surreal. Spanish moss, blooming flowers everywhere, and soft green grass were just what I craved after a cold, Utah winter. Fairhope might be my new favorite place. I seriously considered moving there, but Weston reminded me about the summer humidity.
Using the handmades I brought made me extremely happy. Sometimes I wonder how they incorporate in my world where I am constantly battling clutter, but I think these pictures reinforce that quilts are pretty on a bed and out for a day trip.
And then we finished up our day watching the sunset over Mobile Bay. It was gorgeous. And chilly. The hotel had hammocks & swings set up all along the coastline and we just sat there and talked about our goals, things we are looking forward to doing soon, and of course our little business. Adult conversations have been rare around here.
Now it’s back to reality (And Utah snow!) but I DID take the chance of peace & quiet to put together a cute little pattern I’ll be sharing here on Friday.
Thank you bunches for stopping by!

My ‘littles’ are now grown but I remember those days and how much even short time away kept us going! Good for you! Love your handmades and what refreshing photos.

So nice you were able to have time away from your children. Being a mom is the greatest job in the world but we all need time away to be the best we can be! I love love love the weekender bag! Is it possible to get that pattern anywhere? Have a safe trip home☺️

Fairhope is one of our favourite places to visit, and we travel from the Uk! We love southern Alabama, the people, the food the weather….you name it, we love it. Great music too, and good beer at The Fairhope Brewing Company. Glad you had a good stay.

You know, you don’t have to use too much persuasion to convince your mom to watch the littles. You make it sound like it was hard. Just give me lots of little people hugs and bribe me with fabric. Lol!
Oh! And I’m seriously glad you had a wonderful time.

I’m glad you had a little getaway in my neighborhood. I love Fairhope and Mobile Bay. I’ve spent many hours walking along the shore and just sitting on the dock. Great memories! P.S. It is hot and humid in the summer but you would get used to it!

We spent three winters in Summerdale, AL and went often to the Grand Hotel for a meal or just to wander the grounds. On Tuesdays they do a mockup of a French sailor firing a cannon. Love your photos and the weekender bag.
