Sewing Summit

October 13, 2011

Erin's Amazing Quilt
All I can think to say to sum up my experience at Sewing Summit this year was WOW! So much happened in two short days I think it is impossible to contain all of it in text. And the lighting was so bad, there aren’t too many pictures of our adventures. I totally missed the opening reception since I had to wait for my sweet husband to get home from work, but I did arrive in time to go to dinner with some of the amazing ladies from the SLC modern quilt guild (including Colleen who made that amazing houndstooth bag!)
Meeting Dana of Old Red Barn Co
The next day was mostly made up of classes. I started off my day hearing how Dana of Old Red Barn Co began blogging and why it works for her. She ended with a debate on giveaways and sponsors on blogs. It was a way informative discussion, but I’d love to hear your thoughts…
How to Lose 10 lbs
Then, it was time to listen to the adorable Vanessa of V&Co discuss how she approaches photography. And she showed us(that’s me btw) how to slim our thighs in photos. The woman is my new best friend, for reals!

I got absolutely NO pictures of the adorable Jeni B(shame on me), but she did give everyone in her class a kona color card. I have two, now, so one will probably find it’s way into my giveaway pile.
Wall of Mini Loveliness
Then, Amanda aka MrsMcPorkchop inspired me with her mini quilts. And I cannot wait to get my hands on some ‘thankless’. And I will never throw a scrap away again!

Then it was time for dinner, fat quarter swaps and mingling.
The next morning I listened to a discussion on modern home decor and watched Allison of cluck cluck sew teach free motion quilting.

Then a bit more mingling and a trip home. It was so fun to meet so many great ladies! Can’t wait for next year!

SO jealous that you were able to attend! I hope it was awesome! For those of us who live on the other side of the USA, its a bit much with flight, hotel, food, and the conference cost… but def. a nice deal for those living in Utah. The pictures and descriptions have looked pretty awesome across the blogs. Jealous… turning green 🙂

I’d love to hear more about the giveaways and sponsored posts. I have my own thoughts on the subject (I’ve actually unfollowed several of the “big” quilt/sewing bloggers whose posting eventually consisted of no original content, just giveaways and sponsored posts–they were no longer providing the reason I’d started reading in the first place, basically), but I’m interested to hear more from the different sides.
