I can’t believe we are already 4 days into #31daystohappy. That’s more than 10% done! I feel like that is an accomplishment! If you are just joining us, make sure to read about what the challenge is about here and what you need to do first here.
Life’s busy. 24 hour news sends images of awful things into our lives nonstop. The worst part of this is the old adage ‘what you see is what you get’. The more we see negativity around us, the harder it can be to get to happy.
Visualizing our goals helps us reach them, but who has ten minutes to flesh out their vision? I know that during my darkest days, my imagination ran away with thoughts of despair, perfectly visualizing how my life would look if my nightmare became reality. Obviously, this is not a good thing.
When I filled out my ‘what I want’ page, I finally knew which direction I wanted to go. The next step to getting there requires you visualize what ‘there’ looks like. Put your imagination to work doing something different. Place a scene in your mind of what happiness looks like. Mine is a backyard full of trees, fewer choices but richer days, happier children, and a smile on my face. My business runs smoothly. I know exactly what I’m eating for dinner that night, what songs are playing in the background, and what the sky looks like. Problems come up, but I tackle them and move on.I have a vision. And each day now, I’m taking a little step closer.
DAY 4 CHALLENGE – #31DAYSTOHAPPY
Take your notebook outside. Sink your feet into the earth. Read over your wants. Picture clearly in your mind what your life will look like with those wants incorporated. Let this image solidify. Recall this image at least once every day for the rest of the challenge.
When dirt biking, my husband tells me not to look at the rock I am afraid I will hit. Instead, he points my focus to the trail I want to take.
Today, we are going to take our Sunday, our day of rest, and point ourselves at our new goal. Picture one 31 days from now, then 1 year from now, then 5 years from now and then 20 years from now. Do not let your mind give you any excuse for not creating what it will look like.
For me, I struggled with this. It scared me to imagine and hope. When I type it out it sounds ridiculous, but I was so far into fear I feared to hope. Changing that mindset requires courage, but if you tackled step one, you can do this.
You can sit on your couch and do this, but it is far more effective to go outside. Wiggle your toes in the grass or the sand. Feel your connection to the amazing world surrounding you. Painting a picture in your mind results in the ability of your mind to find the next step toward your own happiness.
If you are really struggling, grab a magazine. pull out a few images and make a very visual collage of what life looks like in your happy dreams.

The Payoff
It is absolutely impossible to hit goals you can’t visualize. Once you imagine where you will be, you can move with purpose towards what you want.

Amanda I love this! I did put myself outside today (but more because I was crabby and needed a break) but even before reading this, I spent that time dreaming of how the next few months/years will look different! Thank you for inspiring us all to look beyond tomorrow!
