Remember how this week is all about taking care of you? Let’s start with a simple, fun way to let your mind recharge. When was the last time you read a book? I know I don’t make time for this little luxury as often as I wish, but did you know it is a truly healing activity? Specifically, reading fiction reduces anxiety (1). Getting lost in a story is now on your list of things to fit into your day.
Reading has always been one of my best coping strategies, but I didn’t realize how much I needed it until my days seemed to busy to fit it in. I’m one of those people who truly get lost in a book. If it’s something I get sucked into, I can’t put it down! I am loving to see my little people learning this at an early age. When life seems overwhelming, jump into someone else’s. It allows the mind time to relax a bit and when you come back to yourself there is a bit of extra energy and creativity to battle your anxiety and process the issues in your day.
Reading keeps your imagination playing and working in a positive manner. It also allows catharsis, the releasing of emotions. By allowing our imagination to create images of fantasy worlds, alternative histories, or mysteries, we let our mind build connections and think more reasonably about the things happening in our own lives.
Day 19 Prompt – #31daystohappy
In the last 20 minutes of your day, when your teeth are brushed and your jammies are on, pick up a good piece of fiction. Let yourself get lost in your book right before you fall asleep.
If you are playing on IG ( Thank you!) I’d love to know what you are reading! I’m dying to start the next Throne of Glass book, but I know that when I do I won’t be able to put it down in 20 minutes! It’s going to be the perfect company the next time Weston goes out of town!
Here’s a list of authors I’ve loved lately. I’m a sucker for a good love story!
- Sarah J Maas (Throne of Glass is fun, but A Court of Thorns and Roses is my favorite! Be aware, these have adult content)
- Julie Klassen ( I love this one)
- And I read anything Susanna Kearsley writes. I read this one first and then had to read all of them!

Reading is something I have done since I was a little girl. I would always lose myself in books. Even now I will have a book on my phone and a real book as well. I love all sorts of fiction. Currently I’m reading Marie Bostwick’s ‘From Here to Home’ and loving it.
Keep up the good work 🙂

I love reading books, not the ebook business but I real paper book ( sorry to those who read their books on phones etc , it’s just not me !) . When life gets tough, I read! I sometimes have a couple on the go, putting one down to pick up another. I always read before bed, tucked up with the cat, much to my husbands annoyance as he can’t sleep with the light on ?. Keep reading Amanda
